After 7 years of great weather for M Events, it was bound to happen...
For the very first time, the weather did not fully cooperate with
us for M8. Even though we started an hour later than normal,
we still opened the gates under chilly and wet conditions from the
storms the night before. The Mid-Michigan Motorplex staff worked
all morning to dry the track off but the temperature made that very
difficult. After delaying the event 2 hours, the end of the
track will still very slippery so we began with 1/8 mile test and
tune runs hoping to move in into 1/4 mile runs later in the day. Unfortunately,
this did not work out as planned as the sun peeked out from behind
the clouds only once for a moment and then stayed hidden behind a
thick gray sky. As a result, we had to run 1/8 mile Bracket
Eliminations instead of 1/4 mile like we usually do. Once that
was completed, the end of the track had dried up a bit more and we
felt that it was safe enough to allow additional test and tune runs
through the whole 1/4 mile along with Quick 16 eliminations.
It was a tough day for racing, but there were some great things
that still happened.
Chris White from S3
Magazine showed up as promised and took images and notes for an
upcoming article! Another pleasant surprise was the arrival of
Barry Kluczyk from Primedia
to hopefully get M8 event coverage into one of their major magazines
as well! Be watching this web site and the newsstands.
Some incredible raffle prizes were given out including a few BMR suspension
pieces courtesy of Detroit
Speedworks, and a complete Nitrous
Express nitrous kit was won by Ronnie Stepp of Corunna, MI. There
were many more raffle prizes given out to ensure that a decent amount
of people walked away smiling.
The cash prizes to the event winners was larger than expected
because the weather forced us to run only 1/8 mile brackets, so we
had to combine Bracket I and Bracket II into a single Bracket. The
Quick 16 competition was incredibly fierce and if you weren't watching
it, you missed some of the best races of the event with some of the
best drivers battling it out.

Michigan Speed took home the Club Participation Award, a new award
for the M Events. Many were wondering where other club representation
was...
Steve Dertien and Matt Harlan put on some impressive runs qualifying
for their NHRA licenses. Congratulations to Steve and Matt for getting
certified! Thanks for the great show!
So despite the poor weather conditions, it seemed that everyone
still had a great time. That is what the M Events are all
about.
A sincere thank you to all who attended and helped make M8 yet another
great M Event.
See you all at M9!
